2010 Review

What an exciting year we had here at the ranch in 2010.

     - Cowboys Playgirl 526 won the year-end AQHA Open High Point Tie-Down Roping title. We won another AQHA Reserve World title with Cowboys Playgirl 526 in the Jr Tie-Down Roping and a top 10 finish with Wins By A Mile in the Sr Tie-Down Roping. Thank you to Jeff Carney for a great showing, and to Jason Hanchey for his continued championship training.

-Adding on in true top notch form Shane Hanchey qualified for his first Wrangler National Finals Rodeo on ranch owned and Jason Hanchey trained Smokin Reata. Reata also finished out in 3rd place for the PRCA Calf Roping horse of the year award. Way to go boy's! Shane will also be hauling three Buck Daniel ranch horses down the road this year. We wish Shane, Smokin Reata, Mega Bucks Boon, and Peppers Paniola the best of luck in 2011!
     - We had great success with our first horse sale in Lufkin Texas thanks to Havard Horse Sales. Thank you to all who helped make this sale happen, and best of luck to all who made a purchase! Keep in touch and let us know how your Buck Daniel horses are doing we would love to post your accomplishments.
-One of our proudest moments of 2010 was adding to our ranch crew with Miss Kaycee Raye Hanchey born November 2, 2010. Congratulation's Jason, Kristin, and Ryleigh Kaye on your new addition.
What great success and happiness we had in 2010. It looks like 2011 is shaping up in the same way. Shane Hanchey won yet another Cajun Classic roping making his year start out in the exact way as 2010 but aboard ranch owned 2008 AQHA World Champion Jr Tie-Down horse Mega Bucks Boon. Jason Hanchey also had great success at our 4th annual New Years day roping aboard Genuine Dual Maker. Jason just finished up his whirlwind 2 weeks of showing at the Triple J Ranch in Sarasota, Fl, and has made an outstanding start to qualifying yet another group of champions for the 2011 AQHA world show. We want to welcome you in for a look around and if your down our way stop in!

January 2011

South Florida is usually home to sunny and warm weather, but the start to 2011 around the ranch has been chilly and even covered with frost on some mornings. This has not slowed down our mares at all, they are still having babies almost everyday. Definitely makes for happy mornings to see these little future champions standing beside their momma's knowing that one day soon they will have a chance to help add to the winning ways of the ranch.

We are very happy to welcome a wonderful couple from Oregon, Brett and Amy Davis, to the crew. Their quiet and gentle ways have proven to be very successful with breaking our two year old's. It is very obvious that we have a talented line coming up that are going to give the already awesome competition horses a run for their money.

The competition horses have already kicked the year off in top notch form. Jason Hanchey and Jeff Carney have had a great start to their AQHA show year, it's looking like we may take more horses to the AQHA world show this year then ever before!

This years rodeo season is just starting to crank back up for Shane Hanchey and his crew of Buck Daniel ranch horses. With two former AQHA world champions and a 3 time NFR mount he is surely not lacking horse power. Shane just won the Fort Worth AQHA timed event challenge on Peppers Paniola and finished out 6th on Smokin Reata. We are very excited to see how far this team will go this year!

Make sure to check back often we are always posting new updates, videos, and pictures. If your our way stop in for a visit, we have a great tour guide on hand.

February 2011

February, the month of candy hearts, cupids, and flowers. This seems to hold true for the ranch also.  We celebrate 2 wedding anniversaries during this month of love. This year Mr. Buck and Mrs. Terry Daniel celebrated their 4th along with Jason and Kristin Hanchey with their 2nd. Not only do we breed world champions here but we are pretty good at match  making also!

Our mares are still producing little package's for us every week. A few of our ranch favorites have had their babies this month, and on some special date's also. One of Kristin Hanchey's favorite's "Cinderella" had a Spend Cash colt on February 21st, Kristin and Jason's anniversary.  February also marked the start of our 2011 breeding season, on the 14th we began turning our stallions out to pasture to produce more winning combination's.

Jason Hanchey and Jeff Carney traveled to Jackson Mississippi for Dixie Nationals on the 16th. They were able to add more points to our tie down and team roping horses that are on their way to the AQHA world show. Thanks for another great showing guys!! In the rodeo arena Shane has been clicking right along with Speck, Roany, and Reata. On the 21st Shane and Speck placed 2nd at the MCR Invitational in Marana Arizona. This is the same roping that he won on Reata in 2009 against some of the top 50 ropers in the nation. We wish you guys safe travels and the best of luck!!

Remember to always check back with us! We are always updating and adding to our site. If your our way stop in for a visit, we have a great tour guide on hand.

March/ April

Luck has definitely been our lady this month! We have had visit's from new friends, more healthy babies, big wins, and the best of all RAIN!

Unfortunately we had to say good-bye to our family from Oregon. Bret and Amy are headed back west to fulfill prior obligations to other ranches. We will miss them dearly but look forward to their return in November!

We had a great visit with our friend Nathan Steinberg who came down from Texas for a few circuit rodeos. Fortunately for us he decided to stay for a week and help Jason ride some of the tie down roping horses. We thank him for all his help and for spreading such great news about our ranch.

Our big win this month goes to Shane Hanchey and Smokin Reata. Congratulations on becoming the 2011 Rodeo Houston Champions! We are very thankful to own such amazing horse's and proud to mount wonderful people like Shane.  Keep up the good work boys!

As usual we are staying very busy here on the ranch, from riding to gardening. Yes that's right we even have a little garden going in this year. Spring is definitely here in South Florida and summer is well on its way. Rainy season has hit and for that we could not be thankful enough every little drop is a blessing right now!

Thanks for stopping by! Keep checking back we are always doing updates and adding on to our site. Make sure you check out our new horses tab there are lots of new goodies to be seen!! Enjoy.

May / June

Good Bye 70's Hello 90's! Degrees that is. Summer in south Florida has officially arrived, but sadly enough we skipped right over rainy season. There was barely a rainy week then right back to a drought we went. If anyone knows of a good rain dance we would love to learn!! Even though we are in the heat of the year does not mean things slow down here at all. Starting the first week of June we will be pregnancy checking mares, weaning and registering our 2011 foals, all while keeping our training operation going. There is never a dull moment on the ranch. We are very excited for our summer girls to be here in June, Colleen Mahoney and Megan Hanchey will be with us and they are a blessing to have around at such a hectic time.

Kaycee Raye the wild jersey bull rider.

Our show horses are still going strong. We welcomed Cowboys Playgirl 526 "Playgirl" home for a much deserved rest before the 2011 AQHA world show. Playgirl has been spending time with our new loper Miss Ryleigh Kaye, and they have become the best of friends. Our kids being raised horseback there's nothing better. Peponitas Dual "Mclovin" and Curious Cat Too "Chaw" made the trip to Jeff Carney in Oklahoma. Congratulations to Jeff for finishing Chaw's first AQHA world show qualification. We also wish Jeff and McLovin the best of luck as they try for AQHA's prestigious 2011 year end honor roll award.

Ryleigh Kaye and Playgirl

After Smokin Reata and Shane Hanchey's big win at the Houston rodeo it was back to Sulphur La and back to work. Shane, Reata, Speck and Roanie have logged many practice pen hours in the past month. The summer rodeo road is no light one but with a big jackpot win in Texas and PRCA rodeo win's in Lufkin Tx and Franklin Tn they are headed out on an uphill swing. Good Luck Boys!!

June and July will be very competitive month's for all of our friends and ranch family. A few of our barrel horses will be competing at the Florida NBHA State show in Kissimmme. Megan Hanchey and Garret Rucks will be attending the largest youth roping in the nation at Barry Burks in Ardmore Oklahoma. Many of our new youngsters will be attending High School Rodeo and Junior Rodeo National Finals.

Best of Luck to:

Bailey Vickers

Blake Vickers

Jobe Johns

Josh Keese

Bailey Paul

Wyatt Paul

In the past month we have had friends from Alabama to Missouri and everywhere in between caught in the terrible storms affecting our nation. Thanks to our Lord above they have all been untouched, but our thoughts and prayers go out to those who are suffering a loss.

Best of Luck and safe travels to everyone headed out for the summer. Don't forget about our Facebook page and our You tube Channel, with so much going on new things will be cropping up all summer. Stay cool!!

August/September

What a blessing this summer has been for our ranch, friends, and family! All of our ranch friends that have been from New Mexico to Wyoming have arrived home safely. Congratulations to everyone on their accomplishments, hard work really does pay off. We look forward to seeing you all again and wish you the best of luck as yet another rodeo season is soon to begin.

The finishing touches on preparing our horses for the 2011 AQHA World Show are well under way. Jeff Carney of Oklahoma is still having great success with Peponitas Dual and Red Pepon 306 on their quest for a year end honor roll title. Jason Hanchey has been hauling Genuine Dual Maker and Curious Cat Too while Ryleigh Kaye continues to keep Playgirl, our reining Queen, in top shape down here in Florida. We are looking forward to November and can not wait to see our horses shine. The 2011 Florida NBHA State Show did not pass by without its share of success for our barrel horses. Kristin Hanchey qualified Stormy Boy Jag and BB Lena back to the short round. Both horses finished strong with 1D times and BB Lena a 16th place finish in the state. This summer a few colts have been upgraded to a hauling position and are showing very promising futures in the barrel arena! Its a pleasure to see such natural talent in our horses. Shane Hanchey and Smokin Reata have not slowed down their winning ways. During the July 4th "Cowboy Christmas" run they were the 3rd top money earners of the PRCA catapulting them to a top ten spot in the NFR standings! It has been an amazing season for this pair thus far. Our fingers are crossed that a top 15 finish is in the future along with another trip to the bright lights of Las Vegas.

We have not quiet made it out of the drought range yet but the rain has definitely not passed us by. Our pastures are back to being lush and green allowing us to actually run the lawn mower once a week. Things are looking beautiful right now, despite the temperatures being in the triple digits. All of our mares have been pregnancy checked for the 2012 season and we are proud to report that we have over 100 mares checked in foal with future champions. When it comes to horses, if you want it the chances are very high that we have it! Things do not slow down here at the Buck Daniel Ranch we are now moving right into the weaning season. Its always an exciting time of year to see all the personality that these little ones bring to the barn.

Our summer has been full of friends and family. Thanks to all of our helpers. Colleen Mahoney & Megan Hanchey did a wonderful job keeping up with grooming, saddling, and loping the horses that were needed. Not to mention the blessing they were as nannies. Josh Keese, Jobe Johns, Austin Misildine, and Jacob Dicks were a huge help to Jason. They were not only great hands to have around for any and everything asked of them, but they were also very good comic relief. Last but definitely not least a huge Thank You to Mrs. Gail Hanchey for the two weeks of home cooked Cajun Cuisine's she prepared for us during lunch. We will miss everyone now that schools is soon to begin, but expect to see you all next summer.

"A stubborn horse walks behind you, an impatient horse walks in front of you, but a noble companion walks beside you."

November/December
Wow 2011 what a year you were! We have definitely had our highs, lows, ducks, and dives here at the ranch. Love, faith, and the prayers from our friends have helped keep us up and going. First off we would like to thank each and everyone of you for your continued prayers and support for our main man Mr. Buck Daniel. Though the road to his recovery is going to be a long one we know that he will be back and running his ranch like we all know he is ready too. Please continue to keep Mrs. Terry Daniel is your prayers also, she has been an unbelievably positive strength for Mr. Buck and for those of us here at the ranch.

We are also happy to welcome back Ricky Hancock, Bret and Amy Davis. Mr. Ricky is back after a year long fight with cancer, and is currently in remission. What a blessing it is to have him back and in good health. Bret and Amy, our friends from Oregon, spend their winters here in South Florida helping Jason break and train colts. Welcome home to you all.

The past two months have been busy for our ranch horses and competitors. Six of our Calf Roping horses traveled to Oklahoma City for the AQHA World show. This year made the 6th year in a row that a Buck Daniel Ranch horse came home with a World title. Red Pepon 306 ridden by Jeff Carney and trained by Jason Hanchey is the 2011 Jr. Calf Horse Reserve World Champion. We also had 2 other top 15 finishes with Cowboys Playgirl 526 and Genuine Dual Maker, both ridden by Jason Hanchey. The AQHA World Show proved to once again be a success for our trainers, riders, and horses. Shane Hanchey and Smokin Reata without a doubt held their own under the lights of Las Vegas dispite lady luck not being on their side like the 2010 year. Shane and Reata were plagued with kicking and non-forgiving cattle the entire week long, but in the 9th round the talent and hard work shined through. After picking up the 9th go-round win bad luck raised her ugly head once more in the 10th, yet we are very proud to say that all week long both horse and rider stayed healthy and working great for that we are very thankful. We are also proud to announce that Smokin Reata was voted the 2nd place AQHA Calf horse of the year in the PRCA! All competitors and horses are ready for the 2012 season as they strive to simply make the best better!

2011 brought alot of new faces to the ranch that we were very happy to match with some great horses. Please remember that you are welcome to call or come by and find that special horse that will fit your needs. We have ranch, roping, barrel, and cutting horses. If you do not see what you are looking for under the For Sale tab please send us an email and we will be happy to post pictures, videos, and information on anything we have.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! May this Holiday Season and New Year bring you an abundance blessings!!
